I suspect a virus on my PC - Windows XP. Also have Prevx freebee and i ran it first but it says the computer is clean. The Avast full system scan is at 9% and has taken 17 hours. What can I do? I am writing from my laptop.
Follow the guide and attach all logs ( not copy and paste )

Not knowing anything about your system, CPU, RAM or the amount of data on the Hard disk (?) there really is no way to answer this specifically. You also don’t say if you changed any of the default settings on the full system scan, e.g. Sensitivity: test whole files; PUPs. Packers: All packers ?
Even without this information, unless you have a massive drive/s full of data 1TB, etc. I would say this time is way too long and is most likely a result of other security software running when this scan is running. Personally I would stop that scan and run a Quick scan, before that I would at the very least disable Prevx or uninstall it.
If Prevx free is running resident then A) not recommended to have multiple resident AVs installed (even if one is disabled) and B) at best this would be causing duplication of scanning, as avast tries to open a file for scanning that could trigger the other Scanner to also scan; at worst it could cause conflicts that may slow the system or even lock it…
- Having two resident anti-virus scanners installed is one too many and not recommended as rather than provide twice the protection it can cause conflicts that could leave you more vulnerable.
