Schedule a boot scan

Can anyone tell me how to schedule a boot scan, please? ???

Click on the Menu button.
Choose Schedule Boot Time Scan.
Doing so displays a dialog allowing you to schedule virus scanning.
Check Archives, if you want scan all the archives.
Specify whether all the disks or just a specific folder should be scanned.
Select Advanced options for scheduling details.
Select how to automatically process infected files.
Choose how to automatically process infected system files.
Click the Schedule button to confirm the settings.

Or just run:
C:\Program Files\ALWIL Software\Avast4\sched.exe /A:*

Welcome to avast forums…
P.S.: Did you try the search option above? ::slight_smile:

I started Avast! anti-virus from the start menu and went into tools. There wasn’t an option to Schedule a boot-Time scan. Any other ideas?

The option is there or you’re in the wrong place.
Oh, are you using Windows 9x or Me?
Boot time scanning is only available on Windows NT platforms (2000 or XP).

Maybe a stupid question - but what exactly do you mean by “tools”?

I open Avast from the start menu and get the Avast Simple User Interface. Which is where I selected “tools”

I am using windows XP home edition

If you click the Menu button, see image (I assume you are using this skin), or right click anywhere on the skin the Menu will appear as in Tech’s image.

I do not get that skin. Have I got a different version?

You should have similar buttons in your skin.
Right click the skin and you’ll see the pop-up menu as the same as you click in the button.
Other skins could be downloaded here: http://www.avast.com/eng/skins.html

Ah, I see - you are using the skinless Simple User Interface; it has a “Tools” menu indeed.
The boot-time scanner scheduling option, however, is in the “Settings” menu (I must say I don’t know why… would seem more logical to me to be in Tools, yes).
