I am using Avast 4.8. The free addition. It is totally up to date, etc.
I want to schedule it to scan files at 1 am each morning. I go in through programs > Accessories > Tools > Schedule. etc. I do the set up and include the proper file (I think) of ashQuick.exe as i recall. Set up the time, etc. When I finish up pretty much it ends up telling me that “You do not have permission…”
I do NOT use a windows password on my computer.
However. When I put a password in twice where it says “Set Password”, I still get the same “You do not have permission…” when I try to finish off.
HELP!!! ;D ;D I am getting desperate. I can usually figure these things out with time but this has me baffled!
P.S. Would sure be great to have a way to schedule “Boot Scan” every night at 1 am! (Just a suggestion.)

Why boot scan?

avast free V5 is out, and it can schedule a scan.......
there is also an option called screensaver scan
what password ? the one to protect avast settings in V4? you cannot schedule a bootscan, it just happens the next time you reboot when you’ve asked for it…otherwise, did you register V4/home? http://www.avast.com/registration-free-antivirus.php
Thought that Avast gave me newest programs like that automatically. Sounds like that should do it. I’ll have a look.
As to boot scans. I’ve had boot scans catch things a few times that the regular scan did not. I just like that extra security of that better scan done daily. I trust Avast as much or more than any other scan. BUT, in this old world no one is perfect. Certainly not Mikey Soft! ;D
Ah man. Never thought that maybe you gave me a password when I registered. That was a year ago. I have trouble remembering what I had for lunch an hour ago. >:( Anyhow, indeed I did register.
Anyhow, thanks for the tips. I’ll try upgrading to 5. Obviously I should do that right away!
Sorry for the crossed posts here. Last post was made when I was replying nto the one before.

this is because it is doing a thorough scan, not because it gives better detection.
The bootscan is when you have something that is difficult to remove

Avast Antivirus offers a “boot time” virus scan of your PC. This allows the antivirus engine to scan all of the files on your hard drive before any other programs load - useful in cases where you have an infection which cannot be cleaned because the “file is in use”
