scheduled boot time scan

Hi

i am New to this, using avast first time, well I just had installed avast & now i wants to use scheduled boot time scan, so I can scan my m/c from boot. But after reboot its showing only black screen. i don’t know what is happening in background. when i hit esc key it will come back to windows.

Well I am using DELL Notebook with Latitude series D531.
OS is XP with service pack 2
& avast 4.8 home adition

If it java proble then i have

Java Plug-in 1.5.0_06
Using JRE version 1.5.0_06 Java HotSpot™ Client VM

Please some one tell me whats the problem.

Java shouldn’t be the problem, but, please, update it to the latest version, uninstalling the old ones.

Check the report file that is created automatically in \Data\Report\aswBoot.txt

thanks a lot for ur quick reply

well because of virus i need to format c drive, because I cant work, it’s getting hang. and after formatting I installed all drivers, & check it from device manager that there is not any driver remaining to installed.

after this i just installed avast from net that is home edtion 4.8 , also after this instalation i first hit search for update & installed it as well.

I suggest a full computer on-line scanning:
BitDefender
ESET NOD32
F-Secure

For detection-only, not cleaning:
Kaspersky
Trendmicro housecall
