Scheduled Scans

I’m not sure where this thread is supposed to go. I’ve searched for this topic with 0 results, I’ve read through 70 pages of topics as well as threads similar to what I’m looking for but can’t find an answer to the question I have. I’ve spent hours and hours looking for help but to no avail.

I run 2 computers which are connected to the internet. One runs from the time I get up in the morning and the other runs when I go to bed. The reason for this is that I run surveillance cameras.

I had scheduled daily quick scans and 1 scheduled weekly full scan set up on both computers. Just recently, the scans disappeared on the computer that runs at night. I tried to reschedule quick scans on it that are supposed to run at 3am Sunday to Friday. The full scan is supposed to run at 3am Saturday.

I’m not sitting here at night to be sure the scans are running and I can’t find a log file to tell me if they’ve actually ran. I’m looking at the logs that I can find right now. AVAST Software/Avast/report. I’m seeing AntiRansomewareShield.txt, aswBoot.txt, BehaviorShield.txt, EmailShield.txt, FileSystemShield.txt, SecureDnsShield.txt and WebShield.txt. Not one of them tell me if the scans are being done just that the shields have been active. I’m probably missing something here but I really need to be sure these scans are running.

In the latest update, I also lost the schedule “Quick Scan” option on the computer that runs at night. It only shows Full Scan and Targeted Scan. I tried a workaround by using custom scan to do the scan. Again, I have no idea if the scans are being done. I even tried a support chat at Avast but sat for about half an hour waiting for a response from the person I was in the chat with. That was after a few posts back and forth. I understand that they’re busy and are probably dealing with more than just one person at a time so I finally closed the chat with no results. I was contacted by the person I was in the chat with about 20 minutes later and she apologised for the delay in her answer. This was her suggestion: "When you open Avast UI, go to Protection>Virus Scans>click on Custom scans. You should see here a scan named ‘‘Quick Scan’’ click on the three dots below in order to adjust settings for the scan.
I did as she suggested but the quick scan option isn’t there. I suggested possibly doing a reinstall of Avast which she agreed that I should do, which I did. Still no Quick Scan option.

I have two questions. 1: how can I get the “quick scan” option back and 2: How can I tell if the scans are being run on the night time computer. I’m usually here and see the scans being run on the daytime computer. There is also a notification of the scans when I open the Avast UI. That doesn’t happen with the night time computer. I’m getting a receding hairline from rubbing my forehead trying to figure this out. lol

Daytime Computer: OS: Win 7 Pro 64-bit SP1, Avast Premier 19.2.2364 (build 19.2.4186.436)

Night time computer: OS: Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1, Avast Premier 19.2.2364 (build 19.2.4186.436)

I appreciate any help or suggestions and Thank You in advance.

Rob

Hello Bob

I checked the video you suggested. If you look at approx the 46 second mark, they click on custom scan. If you notice, the quick scan is already there and able to be scheduled. That’s the scan that is missing in my Avast. Any idea how to get it back??

Thanks for your response. I really appreciate it.

Rob

Repair Avast:

  1. Avast GUI → Settings → Troubleshooting
  2. Click on ‘REPAIR APP’.
  3. Follow instructions.
  4. Reboot.
