This is an annoyance for me - the scheduled time for scans to run is when I am not using the computer, but the scan runs at times when I’m using the computer which is a hindrance. Several times, I’ve reset the time hoping to correct this problem, but to no avail.

No - it was removed by a computer technician who wiped my hard drive clean and reinstalled Windows 7, and then installed (at the time) the free version of Avast. I later purchased Premier. I have vision problems … why is it necessary to enter the verification letters every time I post? It takes me much longer to do that than to type my post, because I have to repeat it several times.
For you, the verification letters, which are a Spammer prevention measure, are over. They are only used on the first 3 posts. 
Repair avast!:
- Control Panel → Add/Remove programs → avast!
- Click on ‘Repair’.
- Follow instructions.
- Reboot.
