My school network uses Funk Software’s Odyssey Client manager. I have not been able to gain access to it recently (it won’t authenticate), and I’m told by the computer people at the University that it is because my computer has a virus. Avast is not detecting one, and I scan with spybot and adaware regularly. This happened to a friend of mine a while back and they told him he would have to take it to a repair shop to have the virus removed. He took it in and they backed up his hard drive and did whatever they did (He wasn’t sure), and when he got it back, he was still told he had a virus. I’d rather not have to do that, especially if it won’t solve the problem. This really doesn’t make sense to me, so I’m hoping someone with more knowledge can give me some advice. thanks -Jay
I thought I’d add my Hijackthis log just in case it can help:

You say avast! can’t detect a virus, but I see you’re using NAV ???
Anyway:
THESE ITEMS ARE HARMFULL AND SHOULD BE FIXED/REMOVED :
r1 - hklm\software\microsoft\internet explorer\main
THE FOLLOWING ITEMS ARE NOT NEEDED TO LOAD
AT BOOTTIME FOR THE SYSTEM TO WORK PROPERLY :
o4 - hklm..\run: [tkbellexe] “c:\program files\common files\real\update_ob\realsched.exe” -osboot
o4 - startup: stardock objectdock.lnk = c:\program files\stardock\objectdock\objectdock.exe

I reloaded windows several days ago and have not switched AV programs. I just said Avast out of habit.
EDIT:
I just switched back to Avast and did a boot scan, and it didn’t detect anything. I’m not convinced I have a virus, but my school is. :-\
What do you mean?
Do you still have Norton installed?
Are you sure that having to antivirus in the same computer, they are working ok?

I uninstalled Norton before going back to Avast. After reloading windows I had Norton until i uninstalled it and downloaded Avast.

try this online virus scanner,
http://uk.trendmicro-europe.com/consumer/products/housecall_launch.php
and disable your real time scanner before starting the scan.
What firewall are you using and have you configured it to allow Funk Software’s Odyssey Client manager to access the ineternet?

My Firewall hasn’t been set to ask for program access for some time, unbeknownst to me. That was the cause of several problems I’ve been having. I wish the people at my university would not have assumed it was a virus, but I should have checked that long ago. :-[
