Scrip trap msn messenger

Hi

I use scripttrap and was wondering what to put in for virus program checker etc

Is it this C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashServ.exe

My daughter uses msn messenger but where it asks for your virus program in files transfer it comes up with norton and said it can’t be scanned.

Do i put that there as well C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashServ.exe

I am using WinXP SP2 Avast pro

You are welcome. Read the recent threads on scripts also. Very interesting, embedded scripts can be very dangerous, allthough normally script is a blessing. It is like a two-sided sword helps the webmaster on the one hand and suits the malcreants as well. Have a nice virus and malware free day,

PS If you use FF install the NoScript plug in. It is good, you can turn it on demand for each url temporarily, for good, or not- just as to your liking. I have it now for quite some time and I am very happy with it running. Will safe your day certainly one coming day.

You are right about scripts being a double edged sword.

I do use firefox and i will look into using the NoScript plug in.

If you untick the box which says ‘scan for viruses using:’ then MSN won’t try to use Norton which has obviously been uninstalled. avast! doesn’t need this box ticked because it has the instant messaging provider, which scans received files automatically.

At least it seems to be working this way for me. I used to get the same message from MSN because I’d used AVG before, but now the box is unticked, the AVG scanner location greyed out, and yet the avast! instant messaging provider still shows a ‘last scanned file.’

yep it works that way but itll be better to tick the box and put the info in the box :slight_smile:

Thanks for your info i did what Frank said ealier before i asked on the forum.
But now i have the box ticked with avast in it.

Does having the box ticked mean that avast! checks files twice: once automatically by the instant mesaging provider and again by ashserv.exe called by MSN?

I don’t know if Avast will scan the file twice, I will be curious to see and i will keep a eye on it.

Thanks for putting in the links will certainly make a hell of a lot easier, for people who are looking to find answers themselves.
Not to mention for me now all i have to do is do a search of my posts and i have the answer again if i want this file path.
