Script Defender

I’m using Script Defender since my avast! home edition doesn’t have script blocker. I’m not sure if Script Defender is acually defending my computer against dangerous scripts even thought I’m using that testing script they gave me. Can you guys give my the info on how this tool works? Thanks in advance.

No idea but I use scriptrap which catches all scripts run from my temporary files. It works by putting a handle in the registry so that every time a script is activated instead of hitting the registry first it is run through scrip trap which gives me an alert asking if I want the script to run or not. Hope that helps

Hi Essexboy,

I use SCRIPTRAP too, and it works well together with AVAST quickscan. How to configure it, I learned here. Haven’t got experience with the other proggie, but I think it is one of sourceforge’s.
ScripTrap even warns me if I want to open a WINWORD file, because there is script. If all files were only in RTF (rich text format) there would not be any viruses (it could not replicate), and only offtopic in this forum. So if you like safe practices for one reason or the other, to be safe - use RTF ::).

The Mexicans out early this year ??? (30 degrees or so…oooffie…what a Mexican summer there will be if the spring even starts Mexican). Keep the sunny side of the virus,

I too use script trap, I previously used script defender (SD), but I didn’t like it when I uninstalled it, the intercepts weren’t put back to how they were.

So it was a pain resolving the file associations so the files opened with the correct executable/runtime file. When SD intercepts a script file (or any you add to its list) when you allow it to be run, SD then hands it off to the correct runtime file. Unfortunately when uninstalled SD just got rid of the association with SD but didn’t restore the association with the correct runtime file for the script. Hope that makes sense.

For any one interested, Script Trap can be found HEREl

I install Script trap, but I can’t work with Microsoft word anymore. :frowning: I had to unistall Script Trap so i can continue working on Microsoft Word. I’m gonna stick with Script Defender for now.
