Script Shield 6.0.1289 no activity with Firefox 6.0.2

Hello,

Just a quick note to let you know that as for Avast! Free 6.0.1289, there’s no Script Shield’s activity for Firefox 6.0.2: 0/0

Even when I open Windows Media Player there’s no sign of activity: 0/0
Script Shield only works with IE 8, which I don’t use.

This is happening on both my father’s laptop and my PC desktop (same OS/Software).

Win XP Pro SP3
Avast! Free 6.0.1289 (Behaviour Shied removed)
Online Armor Free 5.0.0.1097
Firefox 6.0.2
*Security software mutually excluded

Kind regards,
T.

P.S. Firefox runs as a Limited User (Online Armor’s feature) - however, running Firefox in an Administrative Account makes no difference.

I have been waiting for this firefox update to become available from the UI and I have the apply updates enabled. However, I run Firefox 6.0.1 under Drop My Rights (DMR) on this XP Pro system and that appears to work just fine. So I would be surprised if the .01 increment in firefox would change that.

I know, it’s very strange. I have no idea why it isn’t working on my machines…

OK forced the firefox 6.0.2 update and the script shield continues to work with firefox run under DMR.

So I would try removing the OA limited user entry for firefox as I don’t know if even if you try to run it in an administrator account, it still might apply limited user status. But the limited user status of DMR doesn’t cause a problem for me.

I tried that before submitting my original post (I reported it in the “post scriptum”).

However, it makes no difference: still no script shield’s activity.

I just found out that also some other user is having similar problems:
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=84305.msg685686#msg685686

Absolutly no problem with IE8 and Script Shield on my XP Pro system.

Have you read my original post?

Sorry but that reported in that post Reply #34 with the latest version are noticeably different.

They don’t have XP nor do they have an OA rule that was applied to drop to a limited user, they are experiencing this problem in IE9 and you aren’t experiencing a problem with IE 8 (as XP can’t install IE 9).

So for me there are substantial differences to say that they aren’t similar. We need some more feedback from other OA users.

Yes!

It sure would be helpful to know what country you are in as there are issues with Windows Media Player in non English systems.

OA is not part of the problem as far as I know. It does not restrict programs directly, but rather it uses Windows API to drop rights (I suppose it’s the same for DMR). Running FF normally (administrative account) or completely turning off OA and rebooting the system, make no difference: still no Script Shield’s activity for FF 6.0.2

I also tried running IE8 as a limited user and the Script Shield works normally.

@YoKenny, I live in Italy.

running ok here also script shield doing its thing

Script Shield shows activity with Firefox 6.0.2, Opera 11.51, and IE8. I updated via AvastUI from Avast Free 6.0.1279 Beta to 6.0.1289, as I wasn’t home when Avast 6.0.1287 was released, then retracted.

No problem’s here on Win Xp sp3, with Avast Free 6.0.1289 & Firefox 6.0.2.
Script shield is OK

I am also currently getting Script Shield activity with FF6.0, OA, WSA.

I have the same issue , sort of, with Win 7 64 bit. I only see Script Shield activity in IE9. There is none in Chrome or in Windows Media Player or anything else as far as I can tell. The Script Shield was supposed to be enhanced but so far it seems that it has been restricted instead.

And what about Firefox? Does the script shield work with Firefox in your system?

I can’t say since I don’t and won’t use Firefox. I was just confirming that the Shield seems to be only working in IE.

Okay, thank you for your reply and confirmation.

Without behaviour shield, script shield dont work. I test it.
If u want script shield back u must reinstall behaviour shield.(script shield does not work also when u have behaviour shield disabled)

Out of interest I tested it. (Usually SS is disabled here.)
The Script Shield doesn’t work with FF 3.6.22.
