Scroll virus?

Can anyone help?

Intermittently, the active window pane appears to scroll up and down rapidly - although more down than up, which means that in half a second I am viewing the bottom of the page, and cannot click fast enough to go back up again. It also “clicks” the left mouse button repeatedly.

When I click another window pane, the first one stops moving. Also, when removing the mouse cable, the jittering stops.

I assumed it was my mouse, but now another person in my appartment block has it. I tried updating and running Avast and Spybot, but no progress. I also have ZoneAlarm.

I believe it has also corrupted other files, since lots of other programs are not responding as they should.

FYI when I searched on the internet, it said run a chkdsk which I did. It said:

CHKDSK discovered free space marked as allocated in the master file table (MFT)bitmap.
Correcting errors in the volume bitmap.
Windows found problems with the file system.
Run CHKDSK with the /F (fix) option to correct these.

I dont want to run this until someone can tell me this is not likely to screw up my system further. Does anyone know anything about this virus? Is it the “Scroll Virus”??

ps thank God it is intermittent, since I couldnt post this otherwise…

Hi carrisi and welcome to the Avast Forum
Running CHKDSK with the /F switch should not harm your system
here is a link to a site with some details
Running chkdsk on your Windows® XP or 2000 system can most often repair numerous minor Windows® problems you may have experienced and/or encountered. Many people regularly run chkdsk as a part of their overall computer maintenance plan.

Chkdsk harkens back to the days of MS-DOS and one can only wonder exactly why Microsoft® chose to revert to its use because it is, quite frankly, a little clunky, however, well worth the time and effort. There are several different methods that can be used to run chkdsk on a Windows® XP or 2000 machine but the most basic is as follows:
Using Chkdsk
