Search redirect virus:

Avast cannot find a Google redirect virus I have been infected with ???. Anyone else have this problem?

We can’t tell without knowing the exact name/version of the malware.

Try this so we can determine whether or not it is the TDSS variant

] Extract the contents of the zipped file to desktop.
[*] Double click GMER.exe.

[*] In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Ensure the following are UNCHECKED

] Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:)
[*] Show All (don’t miss this one)

[*] Once done click on the [Save…] button, and in the File name area, type in “ark.txt”
[*]Save the log where you can easily find it, such as your desktop.

THEN

Download OTL to your Desktop

[*]Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
[*]Select Scan all users
[*]Under the Custom Scan box paste this in

[*]When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
[*]Post both logs

I dont get how I got this as I have Avast installed and Super anti Spyware
although both subscriptions expired a few weeks ago

Any one of a hundred ways - drive by download - hijacked web page etc…

If you have out of date and insecure web-facing software on your computer, it allows infection.

Update all applications on your computer and you can spit in the face of drive-by downloads and hijacked web pages:
