Surely Secunia isn’t an anti virus program. Its meant to keep programs up to date isn’t it?
I’ve tested it and found no conflicts between avast and the Secunia PSI
A quick Cap’n Cook on their website indicates it is not an Anti-Virus application. OTOH, what methodology does their software use? It is absolutely possible to use AV tech in non-AV apps, thus fooling the real AV you may have on your box.
This does look like one of those once-a-month checkup routines, which is how I would use it. With Avast! disabled until the next boot. No point in having it as a Resident Evil Detector!
Gordon.
I’ve used Secunia PSI for a number of years. I don’t run it resident nor let it update programs automatically. Once a week, I fire PSI up and scan for updates. It’s not perfect (sometimes doesn’t know about a update) and usually I’ve already updated all programs that have a security update, but it’s a nice check.
Because of this problem I am considering replacing Secunia PSI with File Hippo Update Checker. Anyone use it?
I’m not a big fan of download managers so I use the one which comes with avast.
IOW I use the Software Updater which comes with avast. If you want to auto-update
using the Software Updater you must purchase the Avast Premier edition.
