Secureline drops to non-secure

I know this has probably been discussed hundreds of times on this forum.

But ! SecureLine is not secure. It drops from Secure mode to non-secure mode, on Charter, just when I really don’t want it to drop. Well, of course, I don’t ever want it to drop. But it does.

More than once I’ve gotten a postcard from Charter saying “Stop that !” Regarding using PopCorn to download movies. Well, Charter really does’t say “PopCorn” but that’s what it’s all about. I’ve done that once every few months, but Charter, or Twentieth Century Fox, or Big Brother, seems to see everything thing I do, every time.

It seems you don’t know what secureline is/does.

That page says this…

Protect all your online activities from prying eyes. A single click launches a VPN and hides your IP address, allowing you to enjoy true privacy.

Prying eyes are watching me.
My IP address - my modem - was listed

What’s not to understand ?

Hi Clark_711

I am not sure if I understand your problem, but using a VPN doesn’t mean your IP address is always hidden :

Greetz, Red.

It is really simple.

1]
You can setup a VPN, but your data still goes through your ISP’s server(s).

2]
There is no way to hide your IP.
There is always a way to see it.
If there was, how does a server know where to send the data to?
That would be like a mailman with a envelope that he must deliver without knowing a name and address.

Rednose and Eddy,

I do appreciate your replies, but honestly still confused.

Why then does Avast advertise their SecureLine as follows?

Protect all your online activities from prying eyes. A single click launches a VPN and hides your IP address, allowing you to enjoy true privacy.

Both of you are saying that statement is false. Right ?

Or does that statement mean that your IP address is hidden to everyone except the ISP ?

Thanks…

And if that last question is true, regarding “only the ISP” can see my IP address, does that mean that my ISP is giving out data to third parties about my internet activities ?
