Regarding spam guard, I was think about both email and text message protection. It would be useful to prevent these types of messages. Text message protection could have a blacklist of spam numbers with the ability for users to report them. Also, Avast could scan text message for exploits, or malicious links and mark them as spam that way.
Is the sandbox, technically possible for rooted users?
I also hope for some sort of encrypted VPN could be included in a future version. This would be incredibly useful when connecting to public WiFi networks, that can potentially steal any data being transmitted.
there is already Message Shield inside Mobile Security which scans SMS messages for malicious links and if found, deletes them from the message. I think that the idea of spam SMS blacklist was discussed in the company before, but if I remember correctly, there are some legal issues attached to that so I’m not sure it will become reality (even though it’s pretty much possible technical-wise).
The sandbox might be possible for rooted users, yes, but apart from other things I’m also not sure about performance since a lot of applications on Android are really CPU/RAM demanding and sandboxing them might result in a huge decrease of device speed. You also don’t sandbox, for example, games on your desktop PC.
Yeah, I understand the VPN idea. We might look at it, but as far as I know, official support for VPN is in Android 4.0 and above (and some manufacturers disable this feature in their ROMs) so if you have an older device, you are out of luck I’m afraid or you can try some of the unofficial solutions.
