SecureLine VPN Problems with Gmail and Outlook.com

Based on the bot reply here (https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=190792.0) I’m resubmitting these questions/issues to the SecureLine forum for Macs…

Hello,

New Avast VPN customer. About to cancel. Experiencing significant problems sending/receiving email from Gmail AND Outlook.com with VPN connected. Disconnect and everything works fine. Researched this topic extensively on the web and Avast forum. No fixes to be found for OSX. Uninstalled/reinstalled VPN. Errors include: cannot connect with DNS servers, bla, bla, bla. Tried resetting the SMC several times and still not working.

  1. What Gmail and Outlook.com servers (IP addresses) have been whitelisted by Avast so VPN can be used with webmail?
  2. Is there a way to change this using browser-based UI for Gmail and Outlook.com, or do I need to configure with a client? If client, please provide settings to adjust for Apple Mail and Calendar.
  3. What else can/should be done to make Avast VPN work seamlessly with Gmail and/or Outlook.com without having to disconnect VPN. Disconnecting defeats the purpose.

Thanks,
Jetster

That wasn’t a bot but a person who directed you to the correct forum.

Roger that. ;D Thanks Eddy.

Asyn. Eddy. Thanks for clarifying. I just wrote what it said underneath Asyn’s alias. Sorry for the misunderstanding on my part.

Now that I’m in the right place, does anyone have any ideas, answers or suggestions to resolve?

I do sometimes change physical locations and VPN server locations. I also use the iOS VPN installed on my phone. Sometimes the phone is connected to the same network as the computer, and sometimes it’s connected to the LTE cellular network. Sometimes the phone and Mac have the same geolocated VPN servers selected, and sometimes different. There are way too many variables to test and determine here.

Also using Avast Mac Security 2015. Current on updates. Read somewhere that anti-virus software could be interfering with the VPN too. Looked at Preferences > Shields > File, Mail and Web shield settings. All currently “enabled” but have not changed any settings. Not sure if this is a factor but wanted to include to help troubleshoot.

Hoping to get some practical advice, recommendations, best practices or specific instructions to resolve so I can focus on work, not VPN connection problems all the time.

  1. No problem.
  2. Wait for one of the devs and/or submit a ticket: https://support.avast.com/support/tickets/new

I’m running into the same issue. Was there any resolution to this?
Thanks.
Rick
