I use the internet for banking…hence i am scared that sensitive info can be leaked…even though sites claim that they have 128 bit encryption (verisign)…but assuming my pc is infected with a deadly trojan…which notes key strokes , is there any possibility that if i enter my credit card number on a secure site…it can be leaked via the trojan.
If you have an infected computer, yes, it’s possible.
Is there any reason for you to think you’re infected?
yeah coz i just got rid of a very nasty trojan…which was affecting browsing…i am still not sure whether pc is clean…scans show system clean…but u never know… :-\
I suggest:
- Disable System Restore and reenable it after step 3.
- Clean your temporary files.
- Schedule a boot time scanning with avast with archive scanning turned on.
- Use SUPERantispyware and/or Spyware Terminator to scan for spywares and trojans. If any infection is detected, better and safer is send the file to Quarantine than to simple delete than.
- Test your machine with anti-rootkit applications. I suggest avast! antirootkit or Trend Micro RootkitBuster.
- Make a HijackThis log to post here or, better, submit the RunScanner log to to on-line analysis.
- Immunize your system with SpywareBlaster or Windows Advanced Care.
- Check if you have insecure applications with Secunia Software Inspector.
