Security of Virus Scan of USB Flash Drive

Hi, when doing a virus scan of a USB flash drive, is there any risk of the contents of that drive (files or other traces) being left on the PC that is doing the scanning? Or does the scan take place entirely on the USB drive so that there is no such risk? Thanks

I believe the contents of your USB drive will stay on the USB drive during a scan.
