Is Avast running at all times no matter what browser you are using? I just switched from IE to Foxfire and the Avast Script doesn’t pop up any more when opening up the internet. It runs no matter what you are using, right? Thanks
What do you mean by “the Avast script”?
Any chance of a screenshot?
It is (or should be) running all the time the computer is on, regardless of browser, and that is indicated by the blue ball with the “a” in the system tray.
avast Script Blocker (of the avast Pro version) only works with IE, Mozilla (not Firefox) and … I can’t remember… I’m on avast 5 now.
Script Shield is not available in beta.
So it is running all the time, I am not getting the script blocker because it is Firefox. Is having the script blocker that important? I forgot to look at the ball turning and will do that when I get home. I just wanted to be sure I had some form of protection with Firefox. I was getting tired of all the problems with IE and especially IE8, slooooooooooooow. So far Firefox has been great with no problems. Thanks
If you are referring to blocking scripts (or at the very least, prompting to run scripts) - a good idea, as it offers protection from “drive by downloads”, get the add-on “Noscript” for Firefox.
It will block any scripts from running, unless you set them up to run. It is very configurable. Worth studying the FAQ’s for. More here.
The avast Pro also covers script on your system and not just the three specific browsers.
Thanks, just getting into Firefox and will look at adding the Noscript add-on when I get home.
I don’t have a problem with IE8 being slow even on my old XP Home system that I am trying to sell.
It does run quite well with Opera 10 which is the only other browser I would consider.
