Seemed to fix my redirect problem, but...

I just bought a new laptop. I first turned it on on Friday night, and barely used it, and on Sunday night I noticed that Google was redirecting me to random pages when I clicked on results. I found under my Firefox add-ons something called “Google Update 1.2.183.39”. I disabled that, and Google stopped redirecting.

I am not sure where to move on from here. I am considering just resetting my system, since my laptop doesn’t have anything important on it yet and I’d feel good starting again clean. But perhaps I don’t need to do that? As I said, after I disabled that add-on, Google stopped redirecting. But I’m still not sure where the add-on came from, and whether I still have a virus laying dormant in my system. Should I just run my repair disc and re-install Windows, or should I search my system to see if it has a virus, and try to remove it? When I run Avast, it doesn’t find any viruses.

Hi!
Well, looks like it was just an add-on… did you “disable” or “remove” it?
Anyway, You can try running a scan with Malwarebytes® Anti-Malware: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam-download.php

/!\ IMPORTANT!!
Always update it’s database before running a scan! (“Update” tab → “Check for Updates” button)

If You don’t experience any problems, then it may be O.K.
