Whether I run a scan either in regular or thorough mode, I choose to exclude certain folders on my “C” drive from the scan, so I uncheck certain folders, when I setup the scan. However, I notice that Avant seems to scan them anyways. Can I exclude certain folders in Avast Free or is this only possible in Avast Professional? If I can exclude them, please tell me what I am doing wrong, then how to correct it. As a non techie, please make your reply easy to follow. Thanks.
Hi
I’m not on my own computer right now, so I can’t check what you are doing by unchecking certain folders.
The usual way to exclude folders from on demand scanning is
right click the “a” icon, select program setting, click exclutions. Here you can add the files/folders you what to exclude.
You need to use the Exclusion lists:
For the Standard Shield provider (on-access scanning):
Left click the ‘a’ blue icon, click on the provider icon at left and then Customize.
Go to Advanced tab and click on Add button…
For the other providers (on-demand scanning such as the screen-saver or the Simple User Interface):
Right click the ‘a’ blue icon, click Program Settings.
Go to Exclusions tab and click on Add button…
You can use wildcards like * and ?.
But be careful, you should ‘exclude’ that many files that let your system in danger.
Excellent point Tech about excluding too many folders. I think I’ll just let Avast scan everything, I’ll go have a meal or something, it’s gratifying when Avast reports no viruses. Thanks to you + Oldman.
You’re welcome.
