Self defense antivirus

Hi guys,I am a newbie around here. I just wonder, can Avast protects itself against viruses??

Yes.

Actually the correct answer is yes and no.
I have had a utility that when it installed, it totally shut down avast.
Wish I can find the link to that post.

Hi bob3160,

W32/Swen.A is malware that can shut down a number of common windows tools and disables AV programs.
Another one is Klez (Klez.H).
But we have special fix tools and safe mode tools to cleanse these viruses.
Sure our qualified removal experts here on the forums,
like essexboy, oldman, jeffce know how to handle these infections.
Don’t worry,

Hello Damien,
You’re jumping to conclusions.
This was a well documented case from a well known utility. Not an infection.
It also happened some time back.

It also happened some time back.
so it may be fixed ?

Means Avast self defense module is in 50-50 mode??

No…all antivirus have means of protection…but the bad guys are not stupid and find new tricks every day

I remember comodo internet security had a similar problem about a year or two ago.
The malware research group created a financial malware simulator and it totally uninstalled comodo.
Thankfully i believe comodo fixed this although the MRG still believe comodo is vulnerable. :-X
