What I did:
Opened Avast settings, configured virus alert via SMTP to use GMAIL (port 995).
Clicked TEST button.
Result:
Got an alert from Avast UI that it can’t check secure SMTP, then the UI hang - would not respond or close, and does not allow me to close itself via TaskManager either. :
Looks like I’ll have to reboot computer to get rid of the hand Avast UI.
yeah there’s a mistake in the smtp ssl port (should be 465/ssl or 587/TLS).
Anyway, the goal of my post here is to tell that testing the virus alert is fine, it really works >>> but testing the same in “real world” conditions, with an EICAR file, brings no mail ;D it just doesn’t work. I posted that a while ago and Vlk told me that it’s a known issue with ssl accounts, test works, but that’s it ;D he didn’t say why, just that the procedure when testing and the procedure when sending a real alert were quite different, and it couldn’t work with ssl.
