Sending Attachments-Had to shut down Avast

I had scanned 11 pages for a friend, and wanted to email them as attachments using my email OE. Well, I tried several times, and no go. Wouldn’t send. Shut down my firewall, that wasn’t it. Then I shut down Avast Home, and it finally got sent.
I was wondering why this happened, and if there is a way to work around it. I will be sending more attachments in the future, and I really don’t want to shut down Avast with all it’s great featuares every time I want to do this.

Could somebody please help me sort this out.

Thanks !!

avast doesn’t block, just scans and alerts if a virus/suspicious email/attachment is found.
Did avast alert to anything when trying to send ?

What error messages were you getting to indicate it wouldn't send ?

What version of avast are you using the latest is 4.7.844 ?

The pages were text and scanned as jpg’s. I have sent these kind of attachments before with all Avast Home features running and never had a problem.

smtp error. Called my provider, and all was OK there.

Version Avast Home Antivirus 4.6.739.0

Sorry forgot to mention there was no Avast alert, I just couldn’t send.

I suggest you do a manual program update to the latest version before trying to do any fault finding as there have been improvements to the ashMaiSv.exe (Internet Mail provider).

The exact text of the smtp error would have been helpful, however lets not go down that road until you have the latest version.

‘Fault Finding’ that’s a little harsh DavidR :o…I’m not trying to blame anybody or anything, just want to sort this out. I really, really LIKE Avast, and have had nothing but good experiences with it 99.9% of the time…

I will of course update to the current version.

Thank you for your help!!

Fault finding isn’t harsh, it has nothing to do with blame in order to rectify a problem we have to find the fault/cause; it is a fact of life something is wrong and we use fault finding to track it down. However, there is little point in trying to do this with an old version when what may be causing a problem (the fault) could well have been rectified in the latest version.

To me ’ fault finding’ indicates a negative. I suppose it’s in the language, and how you interpret it. Your point is taken though.
