SERIOUS Problem With Automatic Program Update

This is really serious! At least confusing.

I have my machines configured to automatically install new versions of avast!4 on my XPProSP1 machines.

All is going well on machines as long as a user is logged in when avast! installs a new program version. It then askes to reboot.

However, in case nobody is being logged in and avast performs an automatic program update/install, the next time somebody tries to log in he/she gets an message like “Winodws cannot find the local profile …” -
In this case windows creates a “fresh” new profile for the user trying to log in. Although logging off and loggin in once again clears the situation (original profile is back) this sould never happen!

Someone from the avast! team please comment.

(btw: can’t we get rid of the reboot somehow?)

drahnier

drahnier Im NOT from the avast team but i can awner the question on why cant we gat rid of the reboot.
Avast has modules loaded into memory i.e. the standard sheild as there loaded into memory the files cant be updated (windows denies access) so avast must restart the computer to update them

Am I the only one with this problem?

No, I’ve seen a couple of similar problems on the forum.

drahnier, we’re on it
It’s not so easy to simulate the problem though…

Thanks

I can reproduce this at will: all it needs is a running xp pro system with no user logged on and an avast!4 program update comming …
