Hi, I just tried to install Avast a few days ago and had some serious problems. Installation seemed to go fine, but upon reboot Windows hanged on the “Welcome” screen and it took several seconds for the tray to appear. Then a few seconds after that, I received “Windows has recovered from a serious error” messages, and Avast failed to update messages. I rebooted again, same thing. I then uninstalled Avast and rebooted, and everything seems fine. I’ve used Avast multiple times before and had no problems. Does anyone know what could have caused this? I’m using Windows XP Service Pack 2.
Hi…
Were you using another AV program next to avast (two of them together?)
If not, what AV program were you using before installing Avast?
Best Regards…
No, the only thing I have on my computer now is Spybot Search and Destroy. The last AV I had installed was actually Avast.
Which ones did you install before?
The only other AV I’ve used before is AVG.
Generally, AVG is not that bad on removing and avast should be installed well after uninstalling AVG. Maybe you can check http://www.pchell.com/virus/uninstallavg.shtml
Yeah, it’s weird. Before trying Avast this last time the last thing I had installed was Avast, which was working fine. I haven’t used AVG in a good while.
