I have installed Server version on my server. Done a discovery in ADNM and my server shows up in the “Computers without Agent” under Dynamic Computer Groups in ADNM. Is that how it should be? Seems to me that it should show up as a Computer with Agent. The server is also the AMS.
The server version does not cooperate with ADNM. You need a special ‘managed’ server version. This can be installed from the ADNM console (with a deployment task) or you can download the installer from avast web site.
Oh wow, I must have missed something in the instructions… But are you saying that the server gets the same netclient installation as the client computers? We are already running ADNM on our server. Sorry, I’m really confused now.
I never was able to get a deployment task to work (on 2 different installations) but I was able to use the alternate method (http://www.avast.com/eng/download-adnm.html, bottom of the page) using the command line and on the server you use the /server install and then it can be managed by the ADNM.
First after install the ADMN do the mirror update, when it was finish you can create the netclient for MS windows 2000/2003 and for win9x,XP or MS Professional. all the installation instruction already on the manual.
OK, so I think you’ve answered my question in that the server gets the same netclient that the clients do. I have read the manual spi, it would be nice if Avast could taylor them specific to OS’s eventually
I have used the command prompt to install the netserver avast on our server using “setup_av_net.exe /server”. It installed fine, and I saw the correct version being installed with the server box checked. It’s been over 12 hours and ADNM still does not recognize that the server has the antivirus software installed.
Should I wait longer?
We are running ADNM on the server (same machine as netserver) with SBS '03 R2 Premium.
Regards,
Andy
Did you refresh the Computer catalog view in the console (e.g. by pressing F5) ?
Yes, multiple times. It is still not recognizing the server’s client. Should I try re-installing ADNM?
Please post the log file Avast4\DATA\log\Error.log from the managed avast.
It’s 1.3 megs now, but they are all the same lines so I’ll just paste one:
4/24/2008 5:44:33 PM 1209073473 SYSTEM 1900 Cannot connect Server lookup didn't find any AMS'! socket, WinSock error 0x00000000 has occurred.
4/24/2008 5:47:04 PM 1209073624 SYSTEM 1900 Third server conn attempt (last good: 0.0.0.0:16111) failed. (error 00002741).
You can use command line utility aswChAms.exe to check if the AMS’ address is correctly configured on the workstation. If not, you can set it up with this utility.
It eventually found the server without my needing to use that. I have used that utility to check two other computers that will not accept updates via ADNM (I have to log in manually and run avast then update) and they are also pointed correctly to ADNM. Is there anything else I can use to see why 2 of 8 computers are not accepting updates?
Please post the log file Avast4\Setup\setup.log (some recent portion) from one of that computers.
