Since updating to avast 4.8.1169, every few days I’m getting update errors reported. These never happened with the earlier (4.7) version of avast. Here’s an example of the messages from the log:
4/17/2008 3:09:31 AM SYSTEM 1588 Function setifaceUpdatePackages() has failed. Return code is 0x20000004, dwRes is 20000004.
4/17/2008 3:09:31 AM SYSTEM 1588 An error has occured while attempting to update. Please check the logs.
What’s that abot?

PS: I see that avast folks can’t spell “occurred” correctly either!
Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.
I’ve done the repair. I can’t tell if it repaired anything or not. It just says the product was successfully updated. Just to see if that meant anything, I did another repair and got the same results. So, I guess you can’t tell if anything was repaired or not. Time will tell…
You would have to wait for the next auto update or do a manual update to test if the repair had any effect in resolving the “Function setifaceUpdatePackages() has failed.” erro. Just running the repair routine again will prove nothing other than it was run successfully.
Just a quick update…since doing the repair on April 17, all of the updates have succeeded. Looks to me that the repair repaired something.
Thanks,
Larry
