When a virus is found, you have the option to Delete All. Is there a way to run it with Delete All so it doesn’t stop with the warning screen when it finds a virus?
No, only in Professional version (see picture here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=13315.msg112285#msg112285).
In Home version you can check the option “Don’t show this window again” as soon as the first virus warning appears, and click on “No action” button. This way, nothing will be done and you will be presented the results at the end (and you can perform actions from there).
The nuclear option (delete) is never a good first option, AVs are fallible and can on occasion incorrectly detect a file as infected. Having deleted it you are left with no options.
As Tech said with the Home version you only have a limited option in the Home (free) version, to send the infected file to the virus Chest (silent mode, with general answer no).
See the avast help file, Resident Protection: Standard Shield Provider Settings - “Advanced” Page.
Click on Standard Shield and then on Customize.
Go to Advanced tab and select Silent Mode and the General answer No.
My own feeling on this is you should use the default interactive action. This way you know exactly what is going on with your system. If you are getting so many warnings, that you want to automate this process, I believe you should review your security practice - filter emails at source, delete from server rather than download them, sites visited, etc.
thanks for the advice. I’ll check out the silent mode to chest thing. I’m just looking for a convenient way to run at night since I pretty much just answer delete all on those times it had found anything. (I don’t really have anything important on the comp anyway, so I don’t worry much about killing something that I’d have to reinstall or whatever).
Well, an infected system file could prevent the computer to boot… deleting it will avoid booting and you will not only have to reinstall something but format the HDD and start all over again… The repair function of avast when finding a virus give you at least a change to save time ![]()
Glad we could help, welcome to the forums.
As Tech mentions indirectly, prevention is much better than cure, not to mention a recovery/back-up strategy so your data isn’t lost if the worst happens and you have to start from scratch.
