Hello,
My name is Xan and I am setting up a computer of a friend with Avast Anti Virus, she want to see how it will work in her situation and I need your help setting it up please.
She has a Lap top (newer HP) with Vista put on it from the factory.
(it has some Norton Symantac on it that is expired)
Then she has a older HP with Windows XP Pro sp2 for Desktop in the house.
She is a nurse here in Mexico and is currently taking some college courses full time also.
The problem is this:
I need a anti virus program that I can put onto both the systems.
She uses a USB portable memory card to go from work, to school to home on the PC’s.
She speaks some English and is not very computer program literate which is why she asked me to find her a anti virus program and set it up.
She came home from class and had missed one paper that was sent to her I understand, via email in hotmail. Someone said it was a file that was a virus, so I came and found a online scanner to run on her desktop since the resources are so low on it, (it has pent 2 in it with 20 GB HHS.)
I found 12 virus with Panda and it cleaned them off as well as 6 on her USB card.
Panda will not run on Vista though, so of course since it was the carrier to the desktop I am pretty sure all 12 plus, are on her new laptop.
I found that Norton picked up nothing, Nada zilch. OK so I will return tomorrow and set up Avast, (should have been with it from day one in my book)
My question;
How and which programs do I install on her computers, and make it so that they are active when they go on. and that will check the USB card before anything is moved to the PC and clean the infection so the rest of her important things on it can be used. (my thought is the basic home DEMO package on the desktop and laptop but how to set it up for the USB? or am I totally off?)
If I can set it up so she has a good protection program that is easy to use and will work for the PC’s and USB she will be a life long customer I am sure since she tends to stick with what works easy for her.
