Setup Avast for On-Demand Only

I am wanting to try a different Antivirus Suite, but I want to keep Avast for On-Demand scanning, Boot-Time scanning, context menu scanning(when I right click to scan a file), and auto updating. So I have terminated all the shields.

I want to reduce the resource drain of Avast under this useage, as well a startup slow down. I need some advise on which services and startup items that can be changed from automatic to manual or terminated without interfering with what I want to keep.

Can I change the Avast service: “Manages and implements avast antivirus sevices for this computer. This includes the resident protection, the virus chest, and the scheduler.” If I put this on manual, will I still be able to use the Virus Chest for on-demand scans and will the auto updating still work? Will on-demand and context menu scanning still work?

Can I remove ashDisp.exe from startup without interfering with on-demand scanning, boot-time scanning, context menu scanning , and auto updating?

Thanks for the help.

avast is not intended to work as on-demand only scanner.
Sooner or later you will have conflicts (at driver level) and problems.
Believe me. Use only the ‘other’ antivirus if you want, forget avast…
I can answer all your questions but I think it’s really a bad idea…

Thanks Tech for the advice.

I am trying out Avira Suite.

So, you mean I should remove Avast entirely from the computer, right.

I have already added Avira with the Avast resident protection terminated.

If I uninstall Avast, will everything be ok?
Or, should I uninstall both Avast and Avira, and then reinstall Avira on the clean computer.

Your advise is appreciated.

Yes.

Maybe avast would only be completely uninstalled if you uninstall Avira before, then avast.
Or, should I uninstall both Avast and Avira, and then reinstall Avira on the clean computer.

Thanks again, Tech
