Hi all,

how did you format…did you use a recovery cd / partition that sett it back to factory spec ?
is this XP SP3 ?
Formatted as in a full new install of windows ? ( have you done all the windows updates without installing MSE ) or factory restore ? ( again windows updates and removal of factory installed AV )
I made a clean install , and no i have not done all windows updates
There’s your problem then, You need to complete all windows updates first including the SP3 then install avast.
He should really only need SP2 to fix his Avast! problem.
Not that it isn’t a good idea to get SP3, just saying as far as Avast! goes, it should not be needed.
INFO: Support for Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2) ended on July 13, 2010.*
OBS…that usually YoKennys post ;D
I have Windows XP SP3 Professional but i still have updates to complete , i will try to complete all updates.
I realise SP2 is all thats needed but im trying to encourage all the windows updates since SP2 isnt supported anymore
Ahh just noticed Pondus replied the same thing ;D
;D …you are okay, I will worry when you start chasing people around nagging them to improve their sig.
A good policy…just posted the correction in case someone reads this and thinks they can’t use Avast! because they can’t/won’t get SP3.
Guys , i installed all the updates but still the setup starts for 2 or 3 seconds and it closes immediately.
Hmm… almost sounds like your system is infected, and the virus is killing the avast setup process. That sometimes happens.
Lets see if we can find out what it is
