After we installed Avast Home we were no more able to surf the web with either firefox or internetexplorer. DNS&ping was possible but no browsing. It was only possible after I stopped the web provider in Avast .(
After we installed Avast Home we were no more able to print on LPT1 (old HP c640 printer). It was only possible after I stopped all the providers in Avast .(
Virus scanning from explorer context menu is not possible. Error message: “error during alt avast”
Even - after searching this board- with the help of fastexplorer context menu editor and adding ashQuick I got the same error!
Else I am satisfied with Avast cause it detected some malware in our old and huge download folder Eset 2.70 did not!
I believe the issue is with your firewall and not avast.
Ensure that ashWebSv.exe (the web shield) isn’t blocked by comodo.
If it is blocked, change it to allowed and if that doesn’t work delete the entry for ashWebSv.exe in comodo. Now connect to the internet and comodo should ask permission again.
DNS and ping, don’t use the http protocol (port 80 that the web shield monitors), you would also be able to view https secure pages, which can’t be monitored.
I wouldn’t have thought there would be any impact on printing, unless you have a network printer (which you don’t) and then the firewall might come into play. However, it would be speculation on my part to say for certain.
Have (or did) you another AV installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?
Some times a previous AV can have issues with remnants, but I haven’t heard anything relating to Nod, but Norton is a real pig to fully remove and I have seen similar things relating to that.
You must allow avast as a trusted program and it will not block the performance of avast especially when updating, but, do not place comodo in your exemptions, as you might get attacked without antivirus defense.
I use xp service pack 2 Comodo Firewall Pro ver3, Avast 4.8, MBAM and SASpy for back-up malware scanning.
