Several second slow downs executing files.

Ticket: 573755

I am at wits end. I am running a new, fully updated install of Windows 10 on a core i7 system with 64GB of RAM. Further, it is on an SSD. Performance is great.
Then I install Avast and the following symptoms occur:

  1. Firefox slow to load.
  2. Loading Flash content in Firefox causes the browser to stop responding for several seconds. This is on EACH load of a page with flash enabled.
  3. Links opened from external programs take several seconds before the browser registers and attempts to load them.
  4. Window Calculator app takes several seconds to fully load.
  5. Steam install of 3DMark fails attempts to load fully.
  6. Opening most any executable has noticeable lag before it opens.

These are the most noticed symptoms so far.

What I have tried so far:

  1. Disable of File Scanner component. Symptoms disappear.
  2. Repair of Avast install. Reboot. No change.
  3. Uninstall of Avast. Reboot. Reinstall. No change.
  4. Uninstall of Avast. Reboot. Install of Beta. No symptoms! Reboot. All symptoms back.
  5. Uninstall of Avast. Reboot with Avast Cleaner in Safe Mode. Reboot. Installed latest beta (as per recommendation from Support). Reboot. No change.

Notes:
This is the only computer experiencing this problem.

I suggest to create a support package and let avast have a look at it.

I had already done this. That is when I was recommended to try the beta version. I should have mentioned this.

Windows calculator loading slow happens on all Windows 10 systems, with or without a av installed.

Is it only with Firefox or also with other browsers ? e.g. Opera

Calculator fully starts up in less than a second without Avast. It takes several seconds with Avast enabled.

I do not use other browsers, so I haven’t tried them. This said, the loading issue seems to be with all executables and calls to executables.

See if you can narrow down the problem.
Disable the avast shields one at a time to see if it is one of them that is causing the problem.
You can also disable deepscreen/cybercapture to see if it makes a difference.

The problem only happens when the file shield is enabled.
IE shows the same problem with loading flash content, though it is only a second or two of nonresponsiveness rather than the 10+ for Firefox.

After testing this again, with latest beta installed, after re-enabling the file shield:
Calculator has the delay again.
Firefox and IE both take significantly longer to load again.
Flash takes a significant time to load the first time it is called from a ‘virgin’ browser process.
Neither IE nor Firefox have significant delays with Flash content once the plugin after the content is loaded the first time in a ‘virgin’ browser process.
Calling web links from external processes has the several second delay again.

After further testing of individual options, leaving file scanning on but disabling ‘Enable Reputation Service’ seems to remove all problems. I have tried different combinations of features enabled/disabled and ‘Enable Reputation Service’ is what breaks it every time regardless of any other selection.

Now the question is why this occurs and how to fix it. x_x

I have submitted with the Support Tool. File ID: STN1O

Ok, at least we have narrowed down the (possible) cause now let’s wait to see what avast has to say about it.

I have same problem. Shied slowing desktop or browser three second stopped for clicking. When coming new HOTFIX update?
In addition to 30 min ping jumping and blocking teamspeak port joining server. Avast disable only means help that. thx for Avast :-\

stm_jk, if you want help start your own thread and provide details.

Windows calc loads instantly for me. Hm…

If you’re experiencing such slowdowns, there is something badly wrong on a deeper level.

I don’t have any delays either ???

Ditto and same result: No delay and instant open
