Do you try Repair?
Open avast GUI>Menu>Settings>Troubleshooting>Click on REPAIR APP>Follow instructions>Reboot.
Or

  1. Control Panel → Add/Remove programs → Avast
  2. Click on ‘Repair’.
  3. Follow instructions.
  4. Reboot.

If Repair doesn’t fix the problem, try the following:
If your Avast settings are not the default settings and you want them restored after the Clean Install, follow this before removing Avast.

Any other antivirus programs installed (or were installed)? Any other security programs installed?

No other AV software or security programs. This problem happens on a FRESH Windows install, once you reboot a couple of times. It did NOT happen with old Avast versions, such as 12.

Avast 12 is very old .

Your operating system is?

Hi All,
Last night I was able to run Malwarebytes to remove a trojan.

I then tried to to repair Avast and I have tried to do what you suggest but cant as I am getting the blue screen or Startup repair?

Could anything run on a use Key so that i can get the computer stable so i carry out your steps.

Thanks very much for your help much appreciated

Sorry but you can’t do a repair or a clean install unless your computer is actually running.
Sounds like you need a lot more help than just a simple repair of your AV.
It might be a good time to take your computer into your local repair shop.

Assume you mean a “USB Key”.
One thought. If you had created a Avast Rescue USB, then you could have run that.
However, from reading the above, it is probably too late for that now.

Hi all,
Thanks for your help. Can anyone tell me the command prompt to remove Avast from my system as this might remove the error and then fix windows 7 and get my data back.

Thanks for all your help

Kieran
