I have read most of the posts on malware alerts triggered by Dropbox.exe. I have been getting Avast alerts non stop about malware infected .tmp file which Avast moved to chest. Pointless as Dropbox then re-creates the file and it triggers again 10 sec later. The alerts STOP as soon as I stop syncing with Dropbox. I have scanned my pc with three different checkers and nothing is found. I am sure my system is clean.
I have concluded that the infected file belongs to someone with whom I share a Dropbox folder. Dropbbox is stuck on “downloading 1 file” which is I assume is the offending file. Problem is there is NO way of telling what file it is trying to download and I have many work related shared folders so I don’t know who this is coming from.
Perhaps is it a false positive. I don’t think so as the temp file changes name each time I log back onto onto Dropbox (but i don’t understand how Dropbox manages temp files so may be wrong on this).
I have stopped syncing Dropbox so I can do some uninterrupted work, which defeats the point of Dropbox. Does Dropbox not have a virus scanner that detects the file at source rather than send it to all those sharing a folder? How do I (simply) determine what file Dropbox has been trying to download ever since the alerts started?
Advice and help appreciated.
