Shield Log info

HI all, I’m looking at the web shield log in Avast! free (version 5.1.889 - real time shields/web shield/shield log).
It shows some items that were moved to chest but I never saw any real time event notifying me anything had
occurred. Perhaps something happened when my son was using the PC.

Can I request that a date/time stamp be added to the log? It will make much more sense as a historical record.

PS this was one of the good things in 4.8 that was dropped. The usage of Windows events,
and the associated event viewer.

You can add any request to the “Wishlist” for the next version (it may already be requested)

Check it out: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=12640.0

Thanks - I added it as a request.

You are welcome.

I don’t know where you are looking for this information.

Check this file using notepad C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Alwil Software\Avast5\report\WebShield.txt for the WEb Shield. This is where the data files for the Shield reports are stored and they are date stamped for alert occurrences, see image, click to expand.

If you are looking from the Web Shield UI you are only seeing reports for that day or since you last rebooted.

Possibly I misunderstood. I took it to mean in the Real Time Shields,“Web Shield” Shield Log, Web Shield Scan Logs; which shows nothing for me. ???

HI everybody,
I was looking at the info through the interface as I mentioned in my first post.
The info that are given for the entries present are URL, severity, status & action.

I found the date and time info in the webshield.log in the location mentioned by David.

My point was whether or not date / time info could be added to the shield log display in the interface.
Then I wouldn’t have to use Windows Explorer and search for the txt file.

That is what I understood you to mean in your initial post.

I you are viewing it through the UI then you won’t see anything unless there was an alert during the time since you last rebooted. Since it only deals with that day showing a datestamp is depreciated.

However, having said that it looks like the current version displays more than just that after the last reboot, as my file shield log from the UI displays an old alert (test) from 8 days ago. So if they are going to display old data then they should show the date-time.

That is why I gave the source of where this information is gathered.

I agree, there should be date-time displayed.
I’m wondering whether shield log info could possibly be displayed through UI as many users would be unaware as to the data location in Application Data.

Well most of the shields have a link to the Shield Log at the bottom right of its UI, with exception to the Network & Behaviour Shields (I can’t speak about the P2P or IM shields as I don’t have them installed.

I don’t know why it isn’t displayed on those other shields, especially the Behaviour Shield.

I don’t know either. It would certainly serve to streamline the relevant data not to mention the convenience.
