hello i’m new i came over from avria antivir free avast run’s well on my pc thank you i’m using avast free how do i turn off some of the shilelds from starting if i doint use that program i would like to turn off outlook ex shield i doint use outlook ex and the p2p shield i doint use them thanks

Right-click avast tray icon (“a-ball”); click On-Access Protection Control at top of menu. On the list at the left of the window that pops up, click the shield/provider you want to turn off; then click at the right of the window. A box will pop up asking whether you want to persist/save the changes; click .

The Outlook/Exchange shield isn’t for outlook express and is disabled by default unless MS Outlook (not express) is installed on your system.

What is your email program ?
Or do you just use web mail, viewed through your browser ?

thank you both very munch and yes i use web mail 1 with my isp’s for those i trust and yahoo for those i doin’t and after over 2 years of using avira antivir pe classic i’m very happy with avast so far it runs very well on my pc thamks again

No problem, welcome to the forums.

The webmail, viewed through your browser is covered by the Web Shield provider.

So technically the Internet Mail (which doesn’t cover webmail) is redundant too, however, I would leave it enabled and set the sensitivity to High. Some malware comes with its own very small SMTP email program that can send out Spam, avast’s Internet Mail can detect multiple identical emails sent in a short time.

This could be your first indication if you have an undetected trojan spambot on your system. It won’t be using resources unless it is actually scanning so the running service will only be using about 1.5 MB of RAM.
