I am trying to decide on what paid antivirus program to purchase. I am torn currently between Avast Internet Security, and Norton 360. I would simply like to hear what everyone has experienced with these two programs. I have had a bit of trouble myself with avast! Free randomly un-securing itself multiple times. Does this also happen in Avast Pro/IS? I haven’t tried out Norton Free, as it is only a 30-day free trial. What do you all think?
P.S.~ Please do not flame either program, simply tell us your experience with them.
Edit: As a 19 year old gamer, I do a lot of online peer-to-peer work, as well as online gaming. Which program is better suited to deal with the potential threats of this?
I can tell you that some of my family (your age and gamers) has Norton 360 and they got a lot of malware that was undetected. The other part of my family (also your age and older) use Avast and have no malware.
Norton from an uninstallation point of view leaves many remnants. Avast does a clean uninstall.
Norton charges for telephone support; they do have online (look-up support). Avast has an active forum 24/7; email and phone support as well as tech support with a ticket for paid versions.
If you are concerned about security, please do a thorough search regarding Norton and Wifi as there is a known security issue.

My next door neighbor, who is a total-noob, asked me to clean her computer running Norton 360 and it has not been checked in a year. I thought running 4-5 malware-scanners, that I would probably have to remove a considerable amount of viruses, but to my surprise nothing was found to clean or remove. These two products are probably about the same as far as securing your PC, so I would trial each one for awhile and see which one you are comfortable using.
