Should I upgrade to Free 8 to Free 2014 (today)?

I’ve been stalling upgrading. Will I get more grief (bugs, blue screens, crashes, …) than benefit for Vista SP2? Please advise.

Make a system image first if you are worried then do a clean install of the latest version of avast for better results.

hi vista,

avast 2014 9-2011(the latest version) works perfectly on my vista sp2. no bugs at all.

Here is clean un-install/install How-To thread I did.
It just summarizes a lot of folks posts and some Q&A I had: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=143284.0

You wouldn’t know if you had issues until you try.

There are many system combinations/programs which could have an effect.

I’d advise you to do a CLEAN install to v2014 since the protection is far superior. They may be some bugs but not big enough to affect the functioning of the program.

Thekochs has linked how to do that.

I just get a vibe from many people it’s still buggy so perhaps wait few more months for a newer version of 2014?

Disclaimer…Just My Opinion
Totally your call but if you do decide I would elect to do the clean uninstall method.
Yes, I know a lot more cumbersome than hitting the GUI but I think worth it.
FYI, I have not upgraded yet…going to wait for next code release, keep reading the forum, then try on one of my W7 64bit machines.
But…I am very conservative guy too.

There is a greater “vibe” from most users this release is good.
That said there is at the present a new beta, v2014.9.0.2012, release.
It has more bug fixes. There aren’t very many bugs left to be fixed. v2014.9.0.2011 is quite stable.
I would, as many others have suggested that you do a clean install.

v2014.9.0.2012 beta can be found here http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=144768.msg1049924#msg1049924

I have been a Avast Free User since the first release of Avast Free Edition 7.0. I am now using Avast 2014.9.0.2011. Till that day of using Avast 7 and now I didn’t face any serious issue(s) or problem(s). I can tell you that this release is very good. Just like Alikhan mentioned “They may be some bugs but not big enough to affect the functioning of the program.”

Just follow the instructions mentioned by thekochs.

Well one thing is for certain, there is an abundance of qualified assistance for FREE from experienced users and malware removal experts here on the Forum if circumstances call for it.
