I’ve been using Avast Internet Security 5 since the beginning of this year with Shrew Soft VPN with no issues. I have made no changes to my system however I rebooted today and now I can cannot connect to the VPN daemon server while Avast is enabled. If I disable it completely it works. Just disabling the firewall will not fix the issue. I need the VPN to connect to my work network as I work remotely. I submitted a ticket earlier this morning but nobody has responded and there appears to be no technical phone support that I can find. I’m extremely disappointed at this time and regret purchasing this product as this is not the first issue I have had with it.
I’ve solved my own problem by using what has become a standard procedure of using Avast Internet Security. I had to uninstall it and then install it. Sadly this is the third time in three months that I’ve had to reinstall the software to get it to work correctly. I wonder if the program update corrupts itself. Oddly this issue is only occuring on my Windows 7 64bit system and not on my Windows 7 32bit or Windows Vista 64bit systems.
