I have downloaded and updated Nvidia drivers with my previous system and they have been relatively easy.
Whilst I don’t believe these issues are driver related (see previous comments), I have however, downloaded the latest drivers from the Nvidia site.
This would be a task of last resort to risk screwing things up with a failed driver installation (I had this happen with a windows driver update for Nvidia before). I am a firm believer of, “If it isn’t broke don’t fix it”!
I feel would be like clutching at straws, for what is a minor nagging anoyance (a warning in the Event Viewer Logs) every time I shutdown. I have now gotten my shutdown delay down to less than 15 seconds so I can live with that.
Thanks for all your input guys, one day I’m sure that I will find and resolve the problem or some software upgrade or other may do it for me ;D
My problem it seems was unrelated to avast (just a coincidence, it happened at the time I installed avast).
I am now sure that it probably came from an MS windows.update patch, I have now installed another service to overcome the problem.
The service is called UPHClean - User Profile Hive Cleanup - Do a search on MS website for those names and you should find the download for the installation of the service.
This is an entry from the Event Log showing the activity of UPHClean
The following handles in user profile hive ??\User??? (S-1-5-21-1801674531-602609370-725345543-1003) have been closed because they were preventing the profile from unloading successfully:
This gives an indication that the problem is LSASS.EXE related and this was an critical update to combat one of the latest vulnerability (sasser possibly).
So if you are experiencing similar problems, install the UPHClean service, I think you too should be ok. If there is no improvement, you can always disable the service.
