Sick of having legitimate sites blocked. I report them and they stay blocked. I add them to my exception list and some of them still stay blocked. I’m on the verge of kicking Avast to the curb.
First, I’m an Avast user and not an Avast Team member.
First posting in the General sub-forum doesn’t give any clues about the Avast product/s you are using ?
How are they being blocked, Avast alert, website error message, a screenshot example of this could help us to help you.
Sorry, you’re absolutely right. I use the free version of Avast. Below is a screenshot of the “Threat secured” Avast popup I get when I try to access the site. I reported a false detection and then added it to my exception list last week, and I still can’t access it.
Is this Avast One Free that you are using ?
First it looks a somewhat weird, not to mention long domain url, I’m not sure if this isn’t a typo squat style issue (hence the URL:Phishing definition) as I was thinking perhaps it might be googleplayagainstlitigation(.)com but that returns server not found
So I tried a google search googleplaystateagantitrustlitigation
This link is to the google search only and not to the site.
So I took a trip there to trigger the alert.
Look at the Alert Window when I opened the More Details Option (changes to Hide when viewed), which I didn’t see in your screenshot that is present in Avast Antivirus Free (not Avast One). This is indicating that this is likely a scam.
That website is definitely not a scam. It’s a huge Google class action settlement that was announced last week. I work in legal news (I write about cases and settlements). Here’s a screenshot of the Avast version I have.
Strange that Google would give a return that it is a scam (or maybe not),
Interestingly virus total has six other major AntiVirus programs reporting it as phishing.
It’s a court-ordered settlement website set up and managed by a third-party administrator. I’ve gotten used to the blocked sites, but for the past six months, adding them to my exception list doesn’t help me access them.
That may be the case, but there are many such scam sites saying you could be eligible for a pay out…
However to get that you going to have to part with some information, that may possibly be used for access to your details.
So when this crops up out of the blue, legitimately (or otherwise) and in this case the url looks like a misspelt legitimate domain it is highly likely likely it could be a scam. I think that is why there 6 hits on virustotal by major antivirus products and that doesn’t include Avast as the Web Guard is a live scan only so not included in the VT results for URLs.
As for exceptions not working for blocked sites, it rather depends on who/why they were blocked. e.g. was there an Avast Alert (?) if not adding an exception is unlikely to work if the block occurs between the site (or a third party site link from that site) and Avast. So without details it is hard to really comment on that.
