Sidebar in the new beta

I don’t want to interfere with the beta portion of the forum but I clicked on the wrong thing and lost the sidebar I don’t know how to get it back. I checked “help” but it was no help :D.

Thanks

Try this…
Click on Windows logo and write “Sidebar”.
Then select: “Add miniapps in Desktop” or something similar. (see attach 1)
A new window will appear and you just need to select avast! WebRep (see attach 2) if is on the list which I don’t know since I don’t have the beta.

Or check avast gadget options on avast! main GUI.

PS: Sorry but the attachs are on Portuguese. Although you can easily follow the instructions above.

Right click on your desktop and there should be a Gadgets option, click on that and you should see what gadgets are available. The avast one is in there, drag it to where you want it and it should be back…

I get the Avast! gadget OK, but all it says on it is “not available”. I installed it after the rest of Avast!; looks like that doesn’t work yet.

Sorry gentlemen-- nothing there. Anyone else?

You say you installed it after avast, presumably from the add remove programs, change/remove and added it. If so did you reboot, obvious question I know but you didn’t mention it…

Yes, I did a reboot, and under Programs and Features the checkmark shows up. Just dead. :frowning: . I’ll wait for the next beta since I don’t want to redo all my settings just to do a reinstall and get the gadget working.

Try making a copy of your .ini files as that should retain your customisations.

Go to program files and doubleclick aswSidebar. This reinstalls it. I had the same problem.

Thanks a lot; I think there are enough beta testers without me. Not something I would use normally anyway.

I understand. I don’t care too much for toolbars and gadgets. Only way I would use the gadget is if it was cut in half.

This probably needs to be in the beta forum so that they know there is a problem with uninstalling/installing the gadget using add/remove programs (programs and features).

Thanks, Charyb. How the heck did you discover that?

I don’t like the side bar. Looks like they are turning our favorite anti-virus program into a toy but I just had to know.

I had no urge to reinstall the whole program to get the gadget back (going to programs and features → uninstall/change did not work). Don’t like having to go back through all the settings again (good argument for an export/restore settings feature). So I started poking around in the program files to see if the gadget installer was there.

Did you install Download Vista SideBar with Gadgets for Windows XP in Win XP SP3 ???

Works OK for me.

No, Kenny. I just installed the beta on my laptop. The laptop OS is Vista. I got the sidebar fine after installation. I simply clicked it away and didn’t know how to get it back. Charyb got me squared away as you can see.

I discovered yesterday evening that the side bar information is all on on the XP Control panel. Probably on your OS too. Never expected to find it there.

We need a 6.0 manual tout de suite.

Please add your Vista system to your signature.

I would add my Vista system but I’m too embarrassed. ;D

You could say that you have Windows 7 Beta.

I had bought a new Dell laptop just to get Vista. I really wanted to try something different than XP. What a mistake. Early Vista was a nightmare for me. I no longer have that laptop. I purchased one with Windows 7. The soon to be father in law now has that Dell laptop along with my old router. He has had no real problems with it since Vista is older now and the bugs worked out.
