Silent Mode options?

In the older version of Avast Silent Mode had two options:
First one was used to turn all Avast messages, pop-ups and alerts off.
If second option was selected then messages were only supressed if a full-screen application was running.

In new Avast version I can’t find the second option - is it still there and I am just blind?

I’m not sure if that was exactly what it was.

My recollection was:

  1. Silent/Gaming mode was enabled automatically if you were using full screen.
  2. you could enable Silent/Gaming mode, even if you weren’t in full screen mode.

Now it isn’t called Silent/Gaming mode, just Silent mode and it is either on or off.

Hmm… I’m not sure if I understand you correctly - so you are saying that current version of Avast automatically does not show any message if a full-screen application is running? The older version of “Silent/Gaming mode” was not enabled automatically in such case and there was additional option for it - does this change in current version of Avast?

I’ve found two images in google - first one is from the older version of Avast, second one is (it seems) from the current version. Description of “Silent Mode” option is the same on both screens. On second screenshot there is no additional “conditional option” I’m looking for: “Messages/pop-ups/alerts will be suppressed only if a full-screen application is running.

As David already stated, Off (unchecked) means message pop ups.
On (checked) means not notifications.

OK, that’s a confirmation that there is no such Silent Mode option to conditionally turn messages off/on.

So if I want to have messages normally “on” but do not want to see them during my work then I need to manually turn Silent Mode off/on every time I’m starting/ending my work… Well, that’s bad. :frowning:

Buy the product then you can turn off the popups.

I think you did not understand me. I want to see all Avast messages - I prefer to be informed what my AV is doing.

I just do not want to see them when I’m working and in the older version of Avast there was this secondary option.

Sorry but your images also show there was no such option.

You either:

  1. Engaged Silent/Gaming mode or got interactive popups.
  2. Ran programs in full screen mode.
  • even then I don’t know if all programs (your work) running full screen would have engaged Silent mode. For instance if you are browsing, using word or excel, going full screen, still leaves the Windows taskbar. I don’t know if that would be considered full screen in the same way as gaming in full screen.

We are avast users just like yourself and giving our interpretation of the settings now (engage silent mode, no interactive dialogue/popups), and our recall of how it worked in the past.

? ??? I can see that “Silent if a full-screen application is running” option on the first screen - the one that’s turned on.

You seem to want it to be something it isn’t. Wishing will not make it so.
It is what it is.

As you said previously, “I’ve found two images in google - first one is from the older version of Avast,” It hasn’t been available for some time and isn’t available in current versions.

Not that that matters as it was an older version, even if it were available, I still don’t believe it would work as you hoped, simply running a program (not a game) in full screen mode isn’t the same as a game in full screen as it still has the windows task bar displayed.

So, in Avast Free, enabling Silent Mode will also suppress actual alerts in case a virus etc. is detected?

But it would suppress the ads / scare tactics from Avast itself too?

If I then understand correctly: I’d have to choose between being informed about infections, and get ads, or not get any notifications whatsoever? Correct?
And if I want the actual notifications but not the lookalike ads, I’d have to buy the product because that was a deliberate design decision?

Just to get things straight, that is how Avast is set up?

Already explained in several threads.
Going around in circles isn’t going to change things.

It was not a wish, it was a question. I used Avast in the past and I used that second option - it was very useful for me.

I couldn’t find it in current version of Avast so I asked here:

  • was it removed?
  • am I blind and it is still here?
  • was it merged with other option?

The question is already answered (that second option was removed) and I hope you understand my point of view now.

I used it in the past and it worked very well for me. I normally had all Avast messages I wanted but when I played some game or worked or watched some movie (all at full screen) all Avast messages were auto-suppressed. And yes, maybe it was just my luck that applications I used were enough for Avast to use that second option, but it worked.

So, to sum up, I’m sad this option is gone because now I will need to manually turn Silent Mode on and off and on and off every day. :frowning:

Just answer the question without ambiguity. If previous answers were clear enough I wouldn’t have asked.

How the F am I going in circles? This was my first post in this topic with a genuine request for clarification.

After my personal analysis, turning Silent Mode on should suppress all communication, both alerts and ads.
