Silent Mode

I am baffled by Silent mode. I seem to have set everything to Silent yet every time a Virus is detected on incoming mail there is a box asking me to Delete and then a confirmation box once this is pressed. Unfortunately my inbox gets several hundred emails a day, mainly junk, but since this is a buisiness email I am reluctant to change my email address. The confirmation box, freezes the downloading of emails and is extremely annoying. Surely a little tick box on the Delete dialog with a “allows do this action” would be a useful user interface addition. Can anyone explain how I can make Avast geniunely silent? I’m using Vista Business. Just about to update to SP1.

Cheers Nik

What is your email client ?
What version of avast are you using Home/Pro ?

Silent Mode:

Left click the ‘a’ blue icon.
It will start On-access protection

Click on Internet Mail and then on Customize.
Go to Advanced tab and select Silent Mode and the default answer No. This will send the file (email) to Chest.
But take a look here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=28088.msg229736#msg229736

Do the same for the and Outlook/Exchange plugin.
The answer Yes in Silent Mode keeps the virus in the file or into the message (attach) and continue the scanning. You can’t configure ‘delete the infected file’ in the Home version.

You can do the same for Standard Shield provider, but it won’t be a good idea…

Silent mode in the case of the WebShield provider simply means that avast will keep pressing the “Abort connection” button for the user automatically.

Hope this explain how it works…

Hi
Thanks for your advice. Appears to be working now. Not sure if it is because I updated to Vista SP1. I haven’t altered my Avast setting they were set as advised. I use Outlook 2007 as my email client.
