I need to scan items when running Linux Mint so I know they’re clean before moving items to a Windows pc. You can’t normally install Avast on a Mint machine, can you? Again: don’t care about ClamAV, run using WINE, or any other complication. Just want an AV I trust to run “in” Linux so I can move files/downloads to Windows. Only other solution I can think of is to run the Windows pc via Safe Mode and scan files on that machine.
You can’t run Avast “into” Linux and I suppose Vine won’t help here…
Easy way (and also safe): copy the files to an USB drive and move to Windows with Avast running and fully updated.
Long way: create a Rescue CD (or USB) from Avast in Windows, boot from it and scan the files that you have copied to another USB drive.
