Simple User Interface Problem

I have been trying to fix this problem for the longest time now and it is really bugging me. Please help if you know what to do…

Resident Prot. is running fine. However, when I try to start the Simple User Interface (avast itself) to scan my HD for viruses it just thinks for a second and nothing pops up. I have reinstalled it twice already and still the same issue… Please help if you know how to fix this.

Thank you in advance .

Can you start directly ashSimpl.exe or ashSimp2.exe from avast! installation folder?

Same issue. It is loading and then nothing happens.

Update: Avast Log Viewer is having the same issue too.

Does the Task Manager show the processes? (even though the windows are not visible)
What OS do you have, actually?

Just a wild guess - do you use a program called IconPackager? Recently, somebody wrote me that he had similar problems and finally discovered that it was caused by that tool.

This could happen with WindowBlinds too… :stuck_out_tongue:

The process is showing up- ashAvast.exe . I am using Windows XP Home Edition.

However, I am using Stardocks’ Windows blinds and I do have Iconpackager…

How did that person fix the issue? (the one that is using windowsblinds)

Thank you for everything!

Update: I just turned off windowsblinds and iconpackager and still same issue.

Nothing… It could be the problem

Try to boot… But I think the problem is elsewhere.
Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair). You must be connected to the internet while repairing.

If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?

I went into safe mode and ran avast-- works perfectly fine!

The mystery now is why it isnt working correctly out of safe mode?

It is some drive, loaded at normal operation that is ‘bugging’ avast! screen.
It won’t be easy to find which one… Sorry, I touch the bottom of my knowleadge here…

Thank you for all your help…i’ll try reading more forums to find further help. I really appreciate everything…
** I should be ok as far as virus protection goes right? My Resident Protection is running fine…

I’m afraid I’m not familiar with IconPackager… what exactly do you mean by “turned off IconPackager”? I’d suggest either to uninstall it completely, or maybe check if there’s a new version available.
