Sims 2 file - false positive

I just upraded to version 5. Right before, version 4.8 found an infection on a file that has been on my machine for quite a while now. It appears to be an uninstaller for Sims 2. “The Sims2 Deluxe_uninst.exe” I went ahead and upgraded to 5 and continue to get the alert. I have scanned this file on another machine, and on the install CD, and they all come up hot. I uploaded to VirusTotal and it only came back with 2 hits (one being Avast of course).

I suspect a FP. I am unable to follow the reporting channel through the program, as the program will not let me move the file to the chest. (I get an Access is Denied error).

Suggestions?

You could also check the offending/suspect file at: VirusTotal - Multi engine on-line virus scanner and report the findings here the URL in the Address bar of the VT results page. You can’t do this with the file securely in the chest, you need to extract it to a temporary (not original) location first, see below.

Create a folder called Suspect in the C:\ drive, e.g. C:\Suspect. Now exclude that folder in the File Shield, Customize, Expert Settings, Exclusions, Add, type (or copy and paste) C:\Suspect* That will stop the standard shield scanning any file you put in that folder. You should now be able to export any file in the chest to this folder and upload it to VirusTotal without avast alerting.

I have already scanned with VirusTotal and only two scanners found anything. I do not have the link right now, as that machine is still tied up in a boot time scan. The boot scan found another file though, this time the Sims Complete_uninst.exe. I have this program installed on another machine, and the file came up hot there too.

I was able to upload it to VirusTotal on this machine and here are the results:

Once i can get back to the other machine with Sims 2 installed, i can upload the file again to VirusTotal and post the link.

Here is the link to the first file (from Sims 2)

Send the file in a password protected zip folder to virus@avast.com with False Positive in subject and the password in the email body.

I encountered this problem today. First when attempting to install Black and White 2 - made by EA. Googled it and found a post that was created yesterday on a forum when trying to install a different EA game (lotr maybe). Now running a full scan with avast has picked up a virus/spyware for each uninst.exe of all the Sims 2 games/expansion packs (8 or 9, not sure of how many). I’ve just been clicking continue as I dont want to ruin my sims games. Waiting to see if it also finds it for the sims 3.

From what I can tell it’s always EA games and it’s always uninst.exe

I have had Sims 3 since it’s release date and no detections as of today.

Hello,
try to rescan with curent VPS (100121-0) and if still detected then send us (virus@avast.com) the file to analyze and put the “false positive” to subject.

Thank you,
Milos

That seems to have fixed it. Thanks.

Now if i can just figure out my problem with moving this file in (and now out) of the vault.
