Since SP2 Avast Home won't run

Ever since I installed SP2 on my Win XP Pro box at home avast home won’t run. I’ve uninstalled and re-installed home (did it this morning) and non of the services will start. When I right-click on the system tray icon (which is crossed out) and select On-Access Protection Control I can’t start any Instant Messaging, Internet Mail, Outlook/Exchange or P2P Shield. When I click start on any of them I get a popup that asks about saving changes to the resident task. Doesn’t matter if I click Yes or No, I get the same red popup which says “The requested resident task was not found.”

Also, when I try to enter my registration key I get the following pop-up, “Unknown error. Storage can’t be created for the “Splash” task.”

I click ok then I get another pop-up that says, “Unknown error. Configuration is not loaded properly. Error: dbsCreateObject”

I click ok then I get another pop-up that says, “Unknown error. Program can not save parameters to the storage! (Error: dbsCreateObject)”

Any ideas?

Hi, welcome to the forums.

A search of these forums for ‘dbsCreateObject’ will no doubt return many hit as this topic has been previously discussed a number of times.

If you haven’t already got it download RejZor’s avast! External Control program

Change avast’s Database Storage Method (XML/ODBC) and see if that resolves it.

Ahh, excellent, that control app worked like a charm.

I’ve been using avast for two years or so now on all of my and my family’s pcs and this was the first time I ran into any trouble.

Thanks!

Glad your up and running again.
